SD - You said that Comfort points to Luke 22:31-34 as proof that Jesus was praying for Peter but not Judas." I don't think that is necessarily true. The Bible doesn't express anywhere that Jesus also prayed for Thomas but I believe He prayed for Him too. It seems an argument from silence. I believe that Jesus was praying for Judas as well and that Judas could have repented of his betrayal of Jesus. Since the Bible is silent on all of those whom Jesus prayed for, one could easily make the statement that Jesus prayed for many people that are not recorded. It seems to me that Comfort assumes the worst, to fit his understanding.

There is some credence to Comfort's statement as in John 15, Judas left before Jesus prayed His prayer for the disciples. However, He did wash Judas' feet. So, I see conflicting information and one could take it either way, IMHO.

I very much disagree with, "Comfort points out that if a person is truly saved, we will not need to baby sit them to keep them saved." When a baby is born, you don't just place them in the kitchen and say, go ahead and feed yourself. That would be ridiculous, they are incapable. So, in the same way, it would be ridiculous to just leave a new Christian to feed him/herself. The person accepts Christ and we say, "here's a Bible, feed yourself?" We need to nurture, feed and encourage new Christians so that they grow strong with a solid foundation, so that they can bring others into the kingdom. There is no such thing as a Lone Ranger Christian. We live in a community of believers, we need each other. There are times I need to be baby sat and times when I need to baby sit.

Thanks for such an interesting post :-)

Hello,I am only an unregenerate Gentile who has some familiarity with Holy Scripture,as well as with some matters (and wineskins) that (intentionally or more likely, unintentionally) serve to desalinate and disempower (and leave unprepared) the British and American contingent of the Bride. That said,I want to call attention to a wonderful, nutricious book by David Pawson, entitled 'The Road to Hell'.In this book,he points out the overlooked fact that the warnings of Jesus were given to (and about) His own disciples, not unbelievers.

Many (perhaps most) books on holiness are unfit for purpose - for the authors discuss neither the root and cause of unholiness (license/distorted ideas on salvation) nor the consequences of dying in sin/filth (Gehenna/The Lake of Fire). This book on the other hand, says it like it is - alas, that is rare.

Here is a video advert for the book lasting almost 8 minutes.

The book is available in paperback or ebook.

At the least,do watch the book advert.

We Arminians agree that grace and faith are gifts from God but a gift is a gift nonetheless even a person through their free will chooses to receive the gift. They still did not earn the gift given to them.

I disagree that dead in sins means "incapable" but I take dead in sin to mean that we are spiritually and morally dead. We are dead because we lack the life of God in us. We are certainly alive in the sense that we can reason, think, even disobey God and twist His Word (as cults do) for our own benefits. Human beings can know that God exists and even acknowledge His Son and His salvation but still be dead in our sins.

And lastly, I agree that God has elected people. Whether this election is to salvation or to service is another matter. I agree that God chose Israel (Romans 9:1-5) though not all of Israel was chosen for salvation as Paul builds his case in Romans 9-11.

I will be out for a few days with work if you respond so be patient with me. My work is tough right now.

The foundation of the true gospel is that God has decided in His sovereignty to enable man to exercise sufficient choice to ensure Jesus has a willing and loving bride and not a manipulated "Stepford Wife".

God and God alone has chosen to extend His grace to all mankind so that His salvation can be received by all who exercise their God given freedom to place their faith in Him.

Of course some would claim that the ability to exercise faith for salvation would mean a salvation obtained by works – but that idea relies on the erroneous Calvinist view of faith which turns faith into a work, but scripture NEVER defines faith as a work, it always contrasts faith with works.
Doctrine needs to be determined by SCRIPTURAL viewpoints and scriptural definitions and not according to definitions tailored to suit man’s theology.

Where in scripture is faith EVER described in terms of being a vain work of man that would in any way support the Calvinist argument.
